Is a Home/family directed funeral right for you and your family?

The death of  a loved one is difficult , there's unfortunately no getting around it.

The death can come suddenly leaving those left behind in a state of shock.
It can come after a short illness, or a long drawn out one, that has left family exhausted emotionally and physically.
My experience has been that it has been helpful for people to come to terms with the fact of death, when  they are involved in the after death care and spend time with the deceased in a private setting, even if its only a short time.  It can be hugely beneficial to the grieving process.  People usually value being involved and having a task to do.

A home/family directed funeral involves natural body care using essential oils. We do not embalm, instead using dry ice, or ice packs when needed.

Keeping the deceased at home for 1 to 3 days before burial or cremation is usual.

Organizing a burial or cremation can be possible within 24 to 48 hrs, exceptions being when a coroner needs to be involved and an autopsy done to determine cause of death. In this case cremation/burial cannot take place until the coroner releases the body .

Each death and situation needs to be assessed individually for the suitability of a family directed funeral.
